As an Engineering Director, I am responsible for a significant area of MrYum engineering. I lead SRE and Security functions with a mix of leads and individual contributor reports. My duties are:

- Ensuring smooth execution of complex deliverables, e.g.:
  -- Delivering a cost-saving strategy for all of company infrastructure services, e.g. AWS, Datadog, Cloudflare, etc.
  -- Several complicated migrations for the business, e.g. moving the entirety of the serving stack from London to Frankfurt with zero downtime and transparently for the rest of the company.
  -- A number of deployments and onboarding of numerous new services, e.g. Temporal, Retool, Kanji, etc.
  -- Engineering of a developer-friendly service to provision and run secure workloads on K8s using service accounts.

- Being responsible for the organization’s overall technical competence, guiding and growing it in the whole team as necessary via training and hiring, e.g.:
  -- Onboarded and started growing a new function (Se

- Monitor business critical services and ongoing issues, support ticket routing and handling.
- Assistance to sysadmins and network engineers as on-site technician; basic networking operations.

Google Cloud Storage

- Driving a project to implement and tune a new type of autoscaling, saving tens of thousands of core hours a year and reducing toil without impacting production traffic
- Driving significant improvements to deployment/release cycle by completely overhauling the team's canary analysis practices based on sound statistical principles (ttest, interquartile ranges, etc.), allowing to eliminate a significant chunk of toil (10+ hours a week)

Customer Reliability

- Advised diverse portfolio of top Google Cloud customers on infrastructure and SRE practices, including:
    - Reviewing and implementing migration / disaster recovery plans for customers. 
    - Driving insightful and blameless postmortems.
    - Fine-tuning Google Cloud Storage access patterns to optimise performance (e.g. using hedged requests to cut down on tail latency, implementing better naming practices to optimise metadata access patterns on high traffic volumes, optimising backoff patterns to reduce

- Support local offices as a third-line engineer and support expert.
- Linux\UNIX, mobile products and hosted services support.
- Specify and provide support team requirements to products.
- Communicate customer's needs and issues to product management.

Achievements:

- Simplified problem reproduction by building a centralized provisioning solution (VMWare/PXE/Kickstart/Chef). The total initial configuration and install time has been reduced from up to an hour to less than 10 minutes.
- Built and managed numerous custom environments for product testing and issue reproduction, both for my group and Windows support team, including an elaborate mobile device management (MDM) environment, which finally made it possible for our department to have a realistic setup for MDM and Mobile product support.

- Support local offices as a 2nd line engineer responsible for entire product lineup + hosted services support. Occasionally providing realtime support to VIP customers.
- Monitor business critical services and performing crisis management.

Achievements:

- Built a centralised Web-GUI for hosted support tools and CGI scripts, simplifying their usage and speeding up ticket handling for myself and my colleagues.
