This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the world's leading news and media organisations.
The role will be within BBC News Design as a Junior Software Engineer, a key member of a vibrant design development team on English and non-English language Broadcast & video platforms innovating new, bespoke solutions while maintaining and improving existing systems.
A Junior Broadcast Software Engineers makes News graphics that function in real time, from standard on-screen graphics, to data visualisation, Touchscreens, studio screens, election results, data fed AR & VR 3D graphics and everything else that BBC News Design requires on its output.
Creating journalist controlled templated graphics according to a design brief.To have creative input on complex projects.
Deliver projects in a fast paced News environment to tight deadlines.
Develop effective software that meets given specifications with review and mentoring by others in the team.
Help to troubleshoot and resolve issues
Review and give feedback on others’ code
Participate in the team’s software development methodologies such as code and documentation reviewing, and continuous delivery.
Learn new technologies and keep informed of existing technologies.
Write and review technical documentation.
Keen interest in News & Current Affairs
Knowledge or experience of writing and maintaining robust production software.
Knowledge or experience of building bespoke graphics from data sources.
Competence in one or more mainstream development languages and frameworks.
Knowledge or experience of building bespoke graphics from data sources.
Works well with Designers to create data graphics.
Knowledge of the web architecture and key technologies, HTML, Javascript, CSS, Vue & Nuxt.
Knowledge of AWS & other Cloud storage solutions.
Competence in test driven development and broader testing,
Competence in developing for operational concerns
Knowledge or experience of project working and professional software development processes.
