Rust Developer

Polkassembly is the leading governance platform in the Polkadot ecosystem, enabling transparent, community-driven decision-making. We serve as the interface between blockchain-based governance mechanisms and the broader community by offering a powerful discussion, proposal tracking, and on-chain voting interface for Polkadot, Kusama, and parachains.

Role Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Rust Developer with a strong understanding of the Substrate framework and full-stack development experience to help us build the next generation of governance tools for Web3. You’ll work closely with our backend and frontend teams to design, implement, and deploy new features that connect users to on-chain governance.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services using Rust, particularly integrating with Substrate-based chains

• Build and maintain APIs and services that power our frontend applications

• Write and optimize off-chain workers and indexers to fetch and process blockchain data

• Collaborate with frontend engineers (TypeScript/React) to build seamless full-stack features

• Ensure reliability and performance of backend systems in production environments

• Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes

• Contribute to the design of new governance modules and tools for the community

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience with Rust, preferably in blockchain or systems programming

• Proficient in Substrate framework and Polkadot ecosystem tools (e.g., FRAME, pallets, runtime development)

• Experience with backend systems, REST/GraphQL APIs, databases (PostgreSQL preferred)

• Strong skills in TypeScript and ability to work with frontend codebases (Next.js/React is a plus)

• Comfortable building full-stack applications and owning features end-to-end

• Familiar with decentralized systems and blockchain fundamentals

• Experience working in an agile and collaborative remote team environment

Nice to Have

• Contributions to Substrate-based projects or open-source blockchain tooling

• Familiarity with Polkadot’s governance models (OpenGov, referenda, etc.)

• Experience with DevOps and cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines)

• Involvement in Web3 communities or hackathons
