Data Science Intern

We are looking for a data scientist who will support our product, sales, leadership, and marketing teams with insights gained from analyzing cloud data. This is a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new multi-disciplined team of experienced individuals who will be driving the solution design, development, and deployment of advanced machine learning solutions supporting the company’s digital medicine program and other mobile health applications. The position is within Sikka Artificial Intelligence Lab’s team, which contributes to our autonomous diagnosis, health outcomes, and inferencing technology strategy as well as our self-driving practice initiative. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets and AI tools to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms, and creating/running simulations. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams, from databases and APIs to user engagement data. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

Job Responsibility:

• LLM & AI Applications – Develop and optimize applications involving LLM prompting, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and autonomous AI agents to enhance decision-making and automation.

• Design & Develop Data Pipelines – Independently design, develop, and implement robust data pipelines to collect, clean, and transform data from diverse sources, ensuring data quality and accessibility.

• Machine Learning Model Implementation – Develop, deploy, and optimize ML and predictive models, including processes and tools to monitor and evaluate model performance.

• Data Analytics & Insights – Apply statistical analysis, data exploration, and visualization techniques to extract meaningful insights and support data-driven decision-making.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with different functional teams to integrate models into business processes, ensure seamless deployment, and monitor performance over time.

• Stakeholder Engagement & Business Impact – Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions and strategic initiatives.

Education Requirement

We are looking for a candidate who is currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or another quantitative field from a top-tier Bay Area university.

Qualifications

• LLM Expertise – Proven experience working on Large Language Model (LLM)-related projects, including fine-tuning, training, and deployment.

• Problem-Solving Skills – Strong analytical abilities to tackle complex data challenges effectively.

• Programming Proficiency – Experience with Python, MySQL, PySpark, R, and other relevant technologies.

• Data Architecture – Hands-on experience in building and managing scalable data architectures.

• Machine Learning & Statistical Techniques – In-depth knowledge of supervised/unsupervised learning, NLP, deep learning, and statistical modeling.

• Communication Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• AI & ML Tools – Familiarity with Autogen, CrewAI, Hugging Face Transformers, LLM APIs, Langchain, NLTK, TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLflow, AWS SageMaker, Kubernetes, etc.

• Cloud & Web Services – Knowledge/experience with Spark, S3, Redshift, and other cloud-based technologies.

• Distributed Computing – Experience working with Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Apache Flink, and other distributed data/computing tools.
