Accelerated growth throughout 2020 led PicPay to make some changes to its infrastructure, reinforcing the use of AWS managed services. The objective was to support the Donation Center created by the company, which concentrates a list with a series of NGOs. During the pandemic, this hub was also powered by lives performed by various artists – such as Sandy & Junior and Ivete Sangalo -, which encouraged the public to donate.
To support demand, the company migrated several standard services it used to managed technologies that helped it streamline processes. One example was the migration from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) to Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS).

Carneiro also explains that the company's technology works proactively, anticipating business opportunities and solutions. “Time-to-market is very important in our operations. With AWS managed services, we are able to dedicate ourselves to the company's core business by focusing on the rapid development of products and solutions for our customers”.
One example is PicPay's sponsorship of the latest edition of Big Brother Brasil. During the live broadcasts of the Rede Globo reality show, which ended in May, PicPay received up to 50 times more hits than normal. At those times, the scalability provided by AWS allowed the application to keep running, ensuring a great experience for millions of users.
As a digital native whose complete IT infrastructure is hosted on AWS, the super-app has been investing in a data-driven approach to get deeper insights into its customers and improve decision-making. “The support of AWS in the design of our data infrastructure is very important for our growth, allowing various areas of PicPay to have access to information and freedom to make strategic decisions, such as creating engagement campaigns, evaluating the effort dedicated to certain tasks and which products need to be closely observed”, explains Carneiro.
The company's data platform uses AWS analytics to generate insights and predict actions based on each customer's usage patterns, which are available across the country, including via PicPay's business intelligence tool. This data is stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and is automatically available in the PicPay business intelligence tool, which is used throughout the company.
The super-app uses Amazon EMR, a big data service that processes large volumes of data using open source tools to simplify the processing of transaction data performed within the app. In addition, PicPay created a microservice within AWS to give developers and administrators more visibility and better management of all components to deliver an agile and practical product that can be easily used by customers.
