I'm honored to mentor a young man who lost his father figure to cancer. 

I lost both sets of my grandparents to cancer and it's a horrible way to die. I chose this volunteer effort to teach myself that good that can come from a horribly uncomfortable loss.

LiveWell Kids Gardens
All Redondo Beach Unified School District elementary schools along with Hermosa View School have LiveWell Kids gardens provided by Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) and maintained by the Garden Coordinator and Garden Angel volunteers. The LiveWell Kids Garden program provides five interactive lessons per year where students learn about planting, composting, harvesting, mindful eating practices.

Who are WATCH D.O.G.S?

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer at least one full day during the school year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school. These “WatchDOGS” will work right along-side the educators as they read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.

Last school year almost 400,000 men in more than 4,700 WATCH D.O.G.S. schools across 47 states volunteered at least one full day in their child’s schools through this amazing program.

There are two primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program.

Citizen Police Academy Class No. 39 for Redondo Beach. 
The Redondo Beach Citizen Police Academy provides members of the community with a working knowledge of the police department, along with the roles and responsibilities of its police officers. The goals of the program are accomplished through lectures, hands-on training, demonstrations and a ride-along with a police officer.

Participants meet for three hours, one night per week, for 15 weeks. The information covered includes:

Sponsored 6 boys throughout their Confirmation. Confirmation is the supernatural equivalent of the growth process on the natural level. It builds on what was begun in Baptism and what was nourished in Holy Eucharist. It completes the process of initiation into the Christian community, and it matures the soul for the work ahead.

While on my second deployment onboard the USS HIGGINS (DDG-76) another shipmate and I created this entertainment company in order to throw a music event at the newly opened House of Blues.  I promised the entertainment booker that over 300 people would show.  But, when they limited my reach to 21 and over, we lost over 200 potential ticket buyers to our event. 

Only 12 people showed up, two of which were my Captain and his wife.  Massive failure but solidified that I was an entrepreneur since having the support of my family and my Captain gave me a visceral level of confidence that has led me through some harsh times.
