Firestone runs Linux virtual machines on Cloud Hypervisor, and it runs OCI container images as virtual machines too. It ships as one executable of about 22 MB with the VMM, passt and qemu-img inside it, so there is no daemon to keep alive and no libvirt to configure. Firestone runs as your user. A machine is a directory of plain files under ~/.local/share/firestone that you can read with ls and cat, and every command prints each step, what it is waiting on, and how long it took.
