CaptureDocs is a screen recorder that turns a recording into something you can actually read. Capture any tab, window, or full screen with your microphone, system audio, and an optional webcam bubble and CaptureDocs does the part other recorders leave to you: it transcribes the audio into accurate, editable subtitles, builds a searchable transcript you can click to jump anywhere in the video, and automatically splits the recording into titled chapters with a short summary of what it covers. It's built for product demos, walkthroughs, and tutorials, the recordings people are meant to watch but usually end up scrubbing through.
Why you'll like it
Recordings that document themselves — subtitles, a searchable transcript, and chapters generated automatically, not by hand.
Find any moment fast — search the transcript, click a line or a chapter, and jump straight there.
Fully in your browser — no account, no server, no upload. Your recordings stay on your device.
Your choice of AI — bring your own provider for transcription and chapters.
Editable — fix a word in the transcript and it flows straight into the captions; rename chapters; reposition the webcam after recording.
Honest by design — it tells you its limits up front instead of hiding them.
Adding your API keys (general)
Transcription and chapters run on an AI provider you choose, using your own key. Open Settings, pick a transcription provider and a chapter provider, then paste the key from that provider's console into the matching field and save. You only set this once. Each provider's site has a free signup and an "API keys" page where you create a key, copy it as soon as it's shown, since most providers reveal it only once. The key is stored only in your browser and is sent only to the provider you selected.
Notes to keep in mind
Works best in Chromium (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc). Safari and Firefox support the underlying recording APIs only partially.
Nothing is backed up. Because recordings live in your browser, clearing browser data or switching devices loses them — download anything you want to keep.
Use revocable, low-limit API keys. Browser-stored keys are convenient but not server-grade secure.
Transcription has a file-size limit that varies by provider; very long recordings may need a larger-file provider.
None of this gets in your way to start, it's just what to know as you go.
