From Layoff to $1K/Month with AI: A Solopreneur’s Playbook

Sharing a framework and proof of work earns trust

From Layoff to $1K/Month with AI: A Solopreneur’s Playbook

Context

A brief backstory: in February 2023, I was laid off.
Having worked in Silicon Valley for 11 years and seeing ChatGPT’s potential (it launched in November 2022), I knew that going solo and treating AI as a colleague would be essential to building cheaply and quickly a SaaS.

Reality: The First Client is the Hardest

However, that was a haphazard decision — building products should come from a target audience in mind and specifically a client.

Having put my bioengineering days behind (or at least to the side), I essentially elected to start from scratch with practically a new network.

So, as you can imagine, the first client, like the first job, is always the hardest. I went from cutting-edge biotech to AI wrappers. Nobody in my former corporate industry used anything beyond ChatGPT and they would do it with apprehension, because of IP theft fears.

So clearly, I needed to turn a new page and just build.

Enter content marketing.

Content = Marketing = Clients

If there’s one thing you hold on from this article it is the following.

Your digital work is your marketing.
It’s your living resume that actual people,
not AI bots interact with.

In other words, reads and views aren’t vanity metrics.
If one article gets 200 reads and another gets 100, that’s the algorithm telling you: lean in here, less there.

That’s market research done for you and this is the first step before commercializing your skillset.

If you need help with finding keywords of interest, check out the following tutorial, where I show you how I automate my research via Reddit.

How I Paired AI + Soft Skills

My first experiment was Llanai, a WhatsApp chatbot teaching people English. Currently I pivoted it to a language learning journal for business professionals.

It was my first taste of internet money — but too slow and too complicated to scale.

Llanai had some success!

That forced me to pivot into contract work, where the learnings paid off faster.

In April 2025, I doubled down on YouTube tutorials as a means to showcase my problem solving methodology and teaching skills. They not only spotlighted my work, but also opened a passive income stream on Gumroad. More importantly, they showed me a clear opportunity: deliver projects faster, cut costs for clients, and win trust.

Post Consistently Your Success

  • Content → visibility

  • Consistency → credibility

  • Execution → trust

Anyone can copy code. Very few can build trust at scale. That’s where the real value lies. For this reason, I have no problem sharing many of my automations for free.
