Mangood is a barcode scanner for grooming products and supplements, scored for one specific body: a man's.
WHY IT EXISTS
Every ingredient scanner on the market grades a product for "everyone". That average hides the thing I actually wanted to know. Phthalates, parabens and BPA analogs are endocrine disruptors, and the endocrine system they disrupt is not gender neutral. A shampoo that scores fine on a generic scale can still carry three compounds with published links to testosterone suppression and sperm quality.
So Mangood weights the same ingredient list differently. You set a health priority (fertility, testosterone, athletic performance, longevity, general wellness) and every product is scored against that, not against a general purpose "clean" rating.
HOW IT WORKS
Scan the barcode. Get a 0 to 100 score with a letter grade. Open any ingredient to see what it is, what is flagged about it, and which body published the flag. Ingredients earlier in the list carry more weight, because that is how concentration ordering works. Keep the product or swap it, and your shelf remembers what you own.
Not in the database? Photograph the label and OCR reads the ingredient list into a submission. The database grows from the aisle.
WHERE THE FLAGS COME FROM
EU SCCS and EU CosIng for regulator positions, PubChem for chemistry, NIH's Dietary Supplement Label Database and Open Beauty Facts for product data. Every concern in the app names its source. The design rule inside the app is literally "cite the regulator, not us". Where the evidence is observational or thin, it says so rather than rounding up to a scare.
Supplements get a separate treatment: third party testing, ingredient efficacy, contaminant risk, and formulation integrity, which is where proprietary blends stop being able to hide a 12mg dose behind a 2,400mg "matrix".
STATUS
Live and free on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 16+). Android early access list is open. Free during the launch window, and anything you sign up for now stays free.
WHAT I WOULD LIKE FEEDBACK ON
The scoring weights. They are a judgement call layered on published research and I would rather argue about them in public than defend them privately.
Category coverage. Grooming and skincare are solid, supplements are newer, food is thinner.
Onboarding. You set a health priority before your first scan, and I suspect that is one step too many before the payoff.
