The project addresses the problem of information asymmetry in the mandi ecosystem, where real-time market data, such as crop prices, is often available to traders and commission agents before it reaches farmers. This delay creates a knowledge gap, resulting in unfair trading practices.
To solve this, we developed AgriGram, a digital platform that provides live market prices and government scheme updates in regional languages, with voice support for farmers with low literacy levels. For farmers without access to smartphones or the internet, we introduced a USSD-based service, enabling them to access real-time mandi prices through a simple text-based interface.
By offering equal access to verified market data, the platform empowers farmers to make informed decisions, reduces reliance on unreliable sources, and fosters transparency. This solution promotes fairer trading practices and aims to create a more equitable and competitive agricultural market.
