Your Job is Made Up of Other Jobs

I learnt this lesson the hard way.

A job doesn't stop at completing your assigned tasks.

There's more.

Your job includes:

1. Your job description.
2. Managing your manager.
3. The projects that benefit your team or company but aren't assigned to you.
4. Extracting and recording the impact of your work.
5. Continuous learning.

Let's break these down:

→ Your job description:
This is your main responsibility. It’s what you were hired for.

→ Managing your manager:
You need to understand their expectations and communicate effectively.

→ The projects that benefit your team/company:
Sometimes you need to step up and help out, even if it’s not in your job description.

→ Extracting and recording the impact of your work:
Keep track of your achievements. This helps in performance reviews and career growth.

→ Continuous learning:
Always look for ways to improve and stay updated in your field.

Covering these areas well will set you apart.

Remember, it’s not just about working hard, but working smart.
