About this Opportunity
This is a Summer 2026 internship starting in June 2026. You will be working a full week 40 hours on the project team tasks for the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Joint Program Office (JPO) office.

You will be responsible for developing and applying basic skills in areas of specialization with clear direction from your supervisor. Responsibilities and individual tasks include:
Deliver entry-level technical customer service support.
Support testing and demonstration of AI prototypes
Assist with exploratory AI focused data analysis and visualization
Clean and preprocess transportation data for machine learning models
Assist with model training, validation, and testing
Document AI methodologies, algorithms, and workflows
Enhance code to improve current and new tools
Use project management tools to support the team in managing project deliverables, schedules, and client communications.
Analyze datasets from connected vehicle or smart infrastructure pilots
Conduct research and develop summaries on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
Education
Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Artificial intelligence (AI) Mathematics, Engineering, or related field with a 3.3 GPA
Experience & Work Eligibility
Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder.

Technical Skills
Experience with:
Languages: Python (Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib), SQL, JavaScript, and HTML
Technologies: Docker, Git, Node.js, REST APIs, Command Line Interface (CLI)
Database: SQLlite, MySQL, and PostgreSQL
Descriptive statistics (mean, median, standard deviation) and basic probability concepts
Debugging and troubleshooting code
Reading technical documentation
Data cleaning and preprocessing
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)
Understanding of supervised vs. unsupervised learning
Creating basic visualizations
Interest in transportation systems
Understanding of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
Geospatial data concepts (latitude/longitude, mapping)
Advanced Tools
Python
Seaborn - Statistical visualizations
Plotly - Interactive plots
SciPy - Scientific computing
Statsmodels - Statistical modeling
TensorFlow or PyTorch (Introductory level)
Keras - Neural network basics
Experience with open-source and/or proprietary Generative AI models (e.g. Meta’s LLaMa)
Understanding/Awareness of ML platforms (e.g. HuggingFace, OLLaMa, vLLM etc.)
Understanding of overfitting/underfitting
Model performance metrics (precision, recall, F1-score, RMSE)
Cloud based tools including Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Visualization & BI Tools:
Tableau or Power BI (Basic dashboard creation)
GIS Tools including ArcGIS
Statistical & Mathematical:
Linear algebra basics (matrices, vectors)
Calculus fundamentals

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.

USD $23.00 - USD $38.00 /Hr.
