Probe is a native API client designed for both human users and AI agents, offering a seamless experience for interacting with various APIs. It supports HTTP, GraphQL, and WebSocket protocols, ensuring versatility for diverse development needs. Built with Rust and GPUI, Probe delivers exceptional native performance, boasting rapid startup times and efficient memory usage. The client is local-first, meaning your API collections are stored as files you own, making them easily manageable, diffable, and committable to Git. This approach eliminates the need for accounts or telemetry, prioritizing user privacy and data control. Probe also features a powerful Command Line Interface (CLI) for automation, enabling its use in scripts, CI pipelines, automated tests, and AI agent workflows. Environment variables can be defined and overridden across different environments (development, staging, production) for flexible configuration. Documentation for collections, folders, and requests can be stored directly within the OpenCollection YAML files, versioned alongside your code. For security, Probe utilizes the operating system's native credential store (macOS Keychain Services, Windows Credential Manager, Linux Secret Service) to securely store API keys and tokens locally. It also offers import functionality for collections from other clients like Postman and Yaak. Advanced response inspection features include automatic JWT detection and decoding, as well as Unix timestamp conversion, allowing for deeper analysis of API responses. Future planned additions include gRPC streaming, custom themes, and enhanced Git integration.
