We created Onit Dictate because we didn’t want to pay $140+ yearly for voice dictation while also sending our transcripts to the cloud (looking at your Wispr Flow). Onit is a 100% free and local alternative to paid dictation tools like WisprFlow, SuperWhisper and Willow.

We wanted to go beyond basic speech-to-text (like Apple's dictation) and create a smart, AI-powered dictation tool that takes your rough transcripts and turns it into something formatted, clean and ready-to-use. Our custom-built local Smart Cleanup model does just that. It quickly and accurately processes your transcript to remove filler words, stutters and also format numbers, emails, lists and more!

It looks something like this:

• Remove filler words (e.g. “uh”, “been”) – “i’ve been, uh, working on…” → “i’ve been working on….”

• Number formatting (“three hundred forty six” → “346”)

• Email formatting ( “tim three three at example site dot org” → “[email protected]” )

• Punctuation (“hello exclamation mark!” → “hello!” )

• Lists, headings, paragraphs etc. — just speak it out!

Since there is no cloud infrastructure for us to pay for, we just made it free (and no, we’re not harvesting or selling any data off of you.
