GymBuddy: Guided Strength is a free Android gym workout planner for people whose program is "whatever I feel like today".
Many people go to the gym regularly but don't follow a real plan. They repeat the same few exercises, skip whole movement patterns, and can't tell whether anything is moving. GymBuddy gives them a realistic strength training program for the next few weeks, and a place to log every set.
How it works
• Answer a few questions once: your goal, experience, training days, session length and the equipment you have.
• Get a strength program for the next 4, 8 or 12 weeks, with every workout on a real calendar date.
• Follow each workout: exercises, sets, reps and working loads where available.
• Log what you actually did, set by set.
• Your recent training history can be taken into account when future plans are prepared. Finished workouts are never rewritten, so your history stays exactly as you logged it.
What makes it different
• Rules-based on purpose. The same answers give the same program, so the plan is predictable and every suggestion has a reason.
• Balanced training weeks. Programs are built around eight movement categories and limit both total session load and the number of highly demanding movements.
• Six training levels, from Fresh Start to Experienced & Skilled, set how cautious the program is. Your level is reviewed every six months.
• 115 exercises, each with a plain-language card: Setup, Movement, What to watch.
• A plan and a workout log in one app: history, per-exercise progress and a Weekly Review.
Who it's for
Mainly people who already know their way around the gym and want structure without hiring a coach. Beginners can use it too: the lower training levels are more cautious. The app can't check your technique, so a session or two with a coach is still worth it for the main lifts.

Why I built it
I'm a product owner and I've trained in the gym four times a week for five years, including powerlifting competitions. I wrote about fifteen requirement documents before the build, covering how a program is built, how it adjusts and how data is handled, and then built the app solo. It went through a closed test on Google Play and launched publicly in October 2026.
