How Medium Changed My Life as an Indian Writer: The True Story of Growth, Competition, and AI in 2025

From My First Article in 2021 to Today’s AI-Driven Rush The Realities of Writing, Earning, and Surviving on Medium as an Indian Author

How Medium Changed My Life as an Indian Writer: The True Story of Growth, Competition, and AI in 2025

In 2021, I joined Medium. At that time, almost nobody in India was talking about Medium. There was no Partner Program, so we could not earn money from writing. But for me, writing was about sharing my experiences and learning more.

My First Steps on Medium

When I published my first article, “Custom User in Django,” I felt excited to see my words online. I drew from my real experiences in tech. There weren’t many Indian writers at that time. Medium felt calm and less crowded. I wrote at my own pace and didn’t worry much about views, claps, or money.

Fast Forward to 2024: Big Changes

After August 2024, everything changed. Medium launched its Partner Program in India. Suddenly, everyone started writing on Medium. Now, there is real competition. People want to write and earn money. The number of articles from Indian writers skyrocketed. Everyone is chasing views, claps, and payouts.

The Rise of AI Writing

With the rise of AI, the platform changed again. Many articles are now written with the help of AI tools. Sometimes, it seems like every other article is AI-generated, especially from Indian users. While AI makes writing easier, it also makes it harder to find real, original voices. Genuine stories are hidden under a mountain of automated content.

The Problem of Fake Stories and Scam Comments

Now, let’s speak frankly. Medium is filled with fake articles, scam comments, and “tricks” to gain more claps and reads. People say, “Clap for my article, and I’ll clap for yours.” It seems less about sharing knowledge and more about chasing numbers. Sometimes, even well-written articles with genuine experiences don’t receive the attention they deserve. Those who spend hours crafting honest posts often get only a few reads and claps.

How I Feel About Writing Today

I understand that money matters, and writing can help many people earn. However, I wish Medium would return to being a space for genuine stories and real learning. I still write and share my experiences, even if they don’t go viral. Writing transforms you. Every article teaches me something new about tech and about myself. Medium provided me a place to grow and learn.

To new writers, I want to say: Write because you love it. Write from your heart. Don’t just chase claps

Thanks for reading my story. What’s your Medium experience? Share in the comments
