📉 Losing Your Job to AI? Or Just Losing It to Bad Decisions?

Discover why AI isn't replacing workers poor planning, bad leadership, and layoffs disguised as "AI transformations" are the real culprits.

📉 Losing Your Job to AI? Or Just Losing It to Bad Decisions?

I keep seeing stories about people who have lost their jobs because of AI. Some are artists, writers, or designers whose work was taken over by image generation tools. Others come from different fields where managers thought AI could handle everything.

But here’s the twist 🤔
A lot of these stories end the same way. The AI projects did not work. The bosses tried and failed. Yet, workers still lost their jobs. Even worse, those who remained were overworked and blamed for not adopting AI quickly enough.

It makes me wonder…
How many of these layoffs are really about AI, and how many are just using AI as an excuse?

Think about it:
👉 Companies were cutting jobs long before AI.
👉 Many businesses fail because of bad planning, not technology.
👉 And when things don’t work out, it’s easier for a boss to say “AI didn’t deliver” than to admit they made poor decisions.

⚠️ That’s the dangerous part. AI becomes a cover story. A way to shift blame. A way to tell workers:
“You didn’t adapt, you fell behind, so it’s your fault.”

But in reality, the company might have been on shaky ground anyway. Without the “AI pivot,” people might still have been laid off or left scrambling in understaffed teams.

💡 Here’s the takeaway:
Workers deserve the truth. If a business is struggling, everyone should know. Bosses don’t deserve the shield of saying AI is replacing you when the real problem is bad management.

And that’s why organizing matters. When workers stand together, it’s harder for management to hide behind shiny new tech. It’s harder to make layoffs sound “innovative.” It forces accountability.

Because at the end of the day AI isn’t the villain here. Misuse of AI (and the excuses it provides) is.

✊ Let’s not let “AI” become the easy cover story for decisions that hurt real people.
