I just came across the exciting news that OpenAI is opening its first office in India (New Delhi) later this year.

This is more than just an expansion it’s a recognition of the massive role India is playing in shaping the future of AI. Some stats truly stood out to me:

• Weekly active users have grown 4x in the past year

• We’re among the top 5 developer markets worldwide on OpenAI’s platform

• And India has the largest student community using ChatGPT globally 🎓

As a software engineer, I see this as a huge opportunity for developers, startups, researchers, and students. Having a local presence means stronger collaborations, faster adoption, and perhaps even solutions designed with India’s unique challenges in mind whether it’s education, healthcare, governance, or enterprise AI.

This move validates what many of us have been experiencing first-hand: AI is no longer a buzzword here; it’s becoming a daily tool for learning, building, and scaling ideas.
