🤖 The Day Coding Changed: Why Claude Is Now Writing Itself (And Why That’s Insane)

A developer’s take on the “inception” moment of AI and what it really means for our jobs, our sanity, and the future of “vibe coding.”

🤖 The Day Coding Changed: Why Claude Is Now Writing Itself (And Why That’s Insane)

The “Wait, What?” Moment

We’ve all been there. You’re scrolling through Twitter (X) in the morning, coffee in hand, maybe dreading that one bug you left unresolved yesterday. Then, you see something that makes you stop mid-scroll.

That happened to me today.

I saw a tweet from Boris Cherny, the creator of “Claude Code.” If you don’t know, Claude Code is a tool many of us use to help us build software. Boris dropped a bombshell:

In the last 30 days, 100% of his contributions to Claude Code were written by Claude Code itself.

Let that sink in. The creator of the tool isn’t typing the code anymore. The tool is building the tool.

The Stats Are Mind-Blowing 🤯

If you are a developer like me, you know that “using AI” usually means asking it to write a function, realizing it messed up the imports, fixing it, and then moving on. It’s helpful, but it’s not autonomous.

But Boris is living in the future. He shared some stats that honestly sound fake, but aren’t:

  • 259 Pull Requests merged (in 30 days!)

  • 497 Commits

  • 40,000 lines of code added

  • Every. Single. Line. written by Claude (specifically the Opus 4.5 model).

He admits that a year ago, AI struggled to run simple bash commands. Now? It runs for hours or days at a time, fixing bugs, refactoring systems, and pushing code.

As Boris put it: Code is no longer the bottleneck.

Is This The Start of Skynet? 🤖💀

Naturally, the internet did what the internet does. Someone replied to Boris asking the question we were all thinking:

“Isn’t that the start of Skynet? Claude Code building Claude Code? How long until it decides we as humans are no longer needed?”

And Boris’s reply? A simple: “Possibly.”

Okay, he also added that this is why “alignment science” (teaching AI to be good) is so important. But still! seeing a lead engineer agree that self-improving AI is “possibly” the start of a sci-fi movie plot is… something.

What Does This Mean For Us Developers? 👨💻

I’ve been diving deep into “Vibe Coding” lately — the idea that coding is becoming less about syntax and semicolon errors, and more about the flow of ideas.

This news confirms it. We are entering an era where we are the architects, and AI is the bricklayer.

If you are a Python or React developer (like me), don’t panic. This doesn’t mean you’re obsolete. It means your job description is changing.

  • Old Job: Typing def function():, debugging syntax errors, Googling regex.

  • New Job: Designing the system, checking the AI’s logic, and solving big human problems.

The heavy lifting the 40,000 lines of code can be done by the AI. We just need to steer the ship.

The Verdict: Magic or Alien? 👽

Boris described the technology as “alien and magical.” I agree.

When I work with Python frameworks or try to build a new RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) system, the hardest part is always the tedious glue code. If AI can handle that 100%, imagine what we can build?

We could build apps for local communities, solve logistics problems, or create insane games all in a weekend.

So, are we heading toward Skynet? Maybe. But until then, I’m going to let the AI write my unit tests. 😉

Happy Vibe Coding!🚀

Next Steps for You:

  • Try it out: If you haven’t used advanced coding agents yet, start experimenting.

  • Don’t quit learning: AI writes code, but you need to know if that code is good.

  • Watch this space: This “self-coding” loop is going to get faster.
