Grocery scores usually hide the math. I built befood so you can question every point.
Scan a packaged barcode on iPhone. You get 0-100 computed on the phone: nutrition 60% (Nutri-Score 2023), assessed additives 30%, documented organic 10%. Missing fibre or an unreviewed additive becomes a range — never a guess. Tap How this score is built and the split is there.
What you can do today
Scan — camera on any packaged barcode. Label and receipt photos stay on the phone.
Understand — the sentence first, then the nutrients that moved the score.
Compare — two products, the lines that differ first.
Receipts — photograph the till receipt. The shop becomes a scored pantry.
Recalls — one notification if something you scanned or bought is recalled.
Nearby — real supermarkets around you, then Apple Maps or Google Maps.
Independent. Nobody pays to be here. No ads, no sponsored placement. Product data from Open Food Facts and USDA. Corrections go back to the commons.
Free to use. Optional befood+ ($3.99/month or $29.99/year, billed through Apple) only lifts history caps: 50 scans, 50 receipts, 8 areas. Every feature stays on the free plan.

If you eat: open befood.co, scan one thing in your kitchen, and tell me what the score got wrong. That is the most useful thing you can do today.
If you invest in independent consumer tools — not another ad-funded food app — write to [email protected].
