Grace Lal is a UX designer with a background in full-stack Java development, currently shaping human-centered design. She has worked at ASML and Airtribe, focusing on UI/UX design and product design. Grace is pursuing her M.S. in Human Factors & Ergonomics, UX at SJSU. Her project at Airtribe involved redesigning the Daily Challenges feature to enhance user engagement and retention. By introducing gamification elements like gems, the participation rate increased by 47%, and the retention rate rose from 12.5% to 47.17%. The project was an internship in the Ed-tech industry, focusing on UX design, design thinking, and design sprints. The team included stakeholders, lead product designers, and front-end and back-end developers. The redesigned user flow and gamification strategies addressed issues such as low engagement and high abandonment rates. Key features included the introduction of gems, visibility of past questions, a dynamic leaderboard, and certificates of completion. The project also involved user research, heuristic evaluation, and competitive analysis to understand user needs and improve the challenge experience. This project provided valuable insights into handling edge cases and conducting developer handoffs.
