Hey Mac is a free, open-source face unlock and App Lock utility for Mac.

Unlock your Mac with your face

Wake the screen and let Hey Mac recognize you using your camera. Recognition runs on your Mac, and the app stores encrypted face data rather than photos.

Keep selected apps private

Protect Messages, Photos, WhatsApp, Mail, and other apps with a verification shield. Unlock with your face, Touch ID, or Mac password. Choose full-display or app-window coverage and set when each app relocks.

Choose what you need

Set up Lock Screen, App Lock, or both. Hey Mac is built with Swift, SwiftUI, and Core ML, and is available under the MIT license.

Requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Face recognition uses a regular camera and is different from Apple Face ID. Keep your Mac password and native login methods available. App Lock shields the app view; it does not encrypt its files or hide notification previews automatically.
