From JavaScript to Native and Beyond: How AI Is Changing the Way We Build

For years, I made what felt like a “practical” decision.
I built backend systems using JavaScript(Node.js).
Not because it was the best tool for every use case—but because it was familiar. It was easy to start, easy to hire for, and most importantly, it helped us move fast without investing months into learning more complex, backend-heavy languages.
As a founder, speed matters. And JavaScript gave us that speed.
But if I’m being honest, there was another reason too:
I didn’t want the team or myself to slow down while learning something new and difficult.
The biggest shift came with AI.
Earlier, the mindset was simple:
“First master the language, then build.”
Now it’s:
“Learn the fundamentals, and start building immediately.”
AI fills the gaps.
It accelerates learning.
It removes the fear of switching stacks.
And that changes everything.
At Rippl, we initially chose React Native for our mobile app.
Again, the same reason: speed and familiarity.
But at some point, we asked a simple question:
“Are we choosing this because it’s the best… or because it’s comfortable?”
That question led us to experiment with Kotlin and build a fully native Android app.
It wasn’t our comfort zone.
But we did it anyway.
And the result?
Better performance
Smaller app size
More control over the product
And most importantly—confidence that we can learn and build anything
We didn’t wait to “master” Kotlin.
We learned just enough—and started building.
And we successfully shipped.
Now we’re asking the same question again.
We’ve been using Node.js for our backend.
It worked. It scaled. It did the job.
But now we’re exploring Go and Elixir.
Not because Node.js is bad,
But because we’re no longer afraid to choose better tools.
As a founder, your biggest limitation is not technology.
It’s comfort.
We often stick to tools we know, not because they’re right, but because they’re safe.
But today, with AI:
You can pick any language
You can learn while building
You can move fast and go deep
You are no longer locked into your past decisions.
The future of building is not about knowing everything.
It’s about:
Understanding fundamentals
Making bold choices
And trusting that you can figure things out along the way
AI is not just a tool.
It’s a confidence multiplier.
And as founders, that might be the biggest advantage we’ve ever had.
