Overview
Industrial multifunctional single-phase smart electricity meter designed for residential energy metering and integration into automated metering infrastructure. The device combines precision energy measurement, mains-powered electronics, local indication, wired and wireless communications, non-volatile data storage, RTC functionality and anti-tamper features in a compact two-board architecture.
My contribution
I performed a major refactoring and redesign of the existing schematic and PCB implementation. The work included restructuring the hardware design, reviewing and correcting circuitry, reworking placement and routing, adapting the boards to the mechanical architecture, and preparing the design for prototyping and production. Firmware and enclosure design were handled by other specialists.
Engineering highlights
The hardware combines sensitive mixed-signal metering circuitry with 230 V power conversion, digital control, memory and communication interfaces including RS-485, LoRa 433 MHz and Bluetooth. PCB design required careful separation of noisy switching-power circuitry from the measurement path, high-voltage isolation, creepage/clearance control and mechanical coordination between the main meter board and the indication/communication board.
Result
The redesigned hardware was taken through prototyping and production preparation and the product reached serial production.
