Google Scholar has no official API and blocks scrapers quickly, so pulling papers at any scale means captchas and IP timeouts. The Google Scholar Lite API is the cheap, bulk half of that problem solved: send a list of search queries and get back clean JSON, one row per paper.
Each record carries the title, authors, journal or venue, publication year, citation count, a result snippet, and links to the paper and its PDF or HTML full text. Filter by year range, cap results per query, and export the dataset to JSON, CSV, or Excel. Pricing is pay per paper from $1.50 per 1,000, with no setup fee and no per-run fee.
This is the Lite version: it does bulk search results with core metadata at a low price. For citation formats, author profiles with h-index, per-article citation history, and co-author networks, the full Google Scholar API covers the deep surfaces. Shortlist on Lite, deep-dive on the full version.
Example Tasks & Use Cases
Export Google Scholar results to CSV in bulk - run a batch of queries and download a screening-ready spreadsheet of papers.
Scrape Google Scholar for a PRISMA systematic review - fixed queries and year bounds give a reproducible search protocol with exportable records.
Bulk Google Scholar search for Claude agents via MCP - give a research agent a live paper-search tool it can call over MCP.
Bulk export Google Scholar to CSV in Chinese - the language input localizes results for non-English literature reviews.
Literature review search by year range in Chinese - the same year filters and localization for a Chinese-language field survey.
Works with MCP
The Actor is MCP-ready, so Claude, Claude Code, and Cursor can call it as a tool mid-conversation. Ask "find the 20 most-cited transformer papers since 2020" and the agent runs the search and returns structured rows, no scraping code needed.
