The London Community is a community-first platform for international students who come to London to learn English.

THE PROBLEM

Most students pick a language school blind — comparing glossy brochures and fake-looking reviews — and then arrive in London to an empty city with no friends. Choosing wrong is expensive, and arriving alone is worse.

WHAT WE BUILT

A directory and a community, together:

• School directory — every English language school in London, compared honestly by price, class size, location, accreditation and verified student reviews. Filter by budget, area, course type and start date.

• Pre-arrival cohorts — students join a cohort before they fly, so they land already knowing people who start the same week at the same school.

• First 30 Days challenge — a guided checklist that gets new arrivals through the essentials (bank account, Oyster card, SIM, GP registration) and out meeting people.

• Language exchange — matches students who want to practise English with locals and other learners.

• Verified reviews — only students with confirmed enrolment can review a school, so ratings are real.

• Live Q&A — a public, searchable community where students ask about schools, visas, housing, costs and life in London, and get answers from people who've done it.

• Free guides — in-depth articles on English courses, monthly living costs, the best London areas for students, exam prep and student housing.

HOW IT WORKS

Free for students, always. Schools can pay for sponsored placement and a verified profile, which is how we keep the student side free.

TECH

Built with Astro 5 in hybrid SSR mode, Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Realtime, Storage), Tailwind CSS and a Node standalone server. The mobile app is React Native + Expo. Content and SEO pages are generated programmatically and published automatically.

Think of it as The Student Room for language students in London: find the right school, meet your people, and never arrive alone.
