UTM links are underrated.
Are you still sharing links raw… hoping analytics will magically tell you where people came from? 👀
That’s like throwing a party and not asking who actually showed up.
Enter: UTM links 🕵️♂️
They’re just your regular links + a few secret tags that tell you exactly:
Who sent the traffic (utm_source = twitter, linkedin, newsletter)
What kind of channel it was (utm_medium = social, email, ad)
Why it came (utm_campaign = launch, sale, event)
Example:
https://sniff.so/?utm_source=peerlist&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=awarenessNow, instead of “100 visits appeared out of nowhere,” your analytics dashboard will say:
- 60 came from LinkedIn posts
- 30 from Peerlist
- 10 from that random email you forgot you sent
Where to see it?
Google Analytics → Acquisition → Traffic
Or in tools like Plausible, Mixpanel — they pick UTMs up automatically.
Without UTMs → you’re guessing.
With UTMs → you’re Sherlock Holmes with data. 🔍
So… next time you drop a link, tag it.
Future you will thank present you. 🙌
