From my phone I told a chat to update my personal site and ship it. My home PC did the work.
Local Commander lets any AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Cline, OpenCode, or a local model through LM Studio or Ollama) run tasks on your own Windows, macOS or Linux computers, from one chat, including from a phone. The computer you control needs no AI client installed; the AI reaches it over MCP. You can connect several computers and use them all from one conversation.
The AI can run commands (a program plus an argument list), read, write and search files, check Git status, diffs and history, check localhost services, take screenshots, and start long-running operations that report status and can be cancelled. You see each action, can cancel it, and can revoke a computer's access at any time.
I use it for my own site, a homelab of several machines and servers, and my mother-in-law's PC in another country, where I set up her video calls with the grandchildren from my phone.
Honest limits: the computer must be on, online and running the paired agent. This is a young project built by one person, so there are rough edges. An MIT-licensed open-source edition is on GitHub.
