OpenAI just hit a huge milestone 🚀

OpenAI says revenue hit $20 billion in 2025, up 233% from prior year

The company says its annualized revenue reached $20B in 2025, up 233% YoY. What’s wild is how closely revenue tracked compute growth. From 0.2 GW in 2023 to ~1.9 GW in 2025, OpenAI scaled infrastructure at a pace usually reserved for hyperscalers.

But growth isn’t the whole story 👀

  • OpenAI’s enterprise API share reportedly dropped from ~50% to ~25%

  • Anthropic now leads enterprise LLMs and dominates coding use cases

  • On the consumer side, ChatGPT traffic is still massive, but Google Gemini is rapidly closing the gap

To offset rising costs, OpenAI is now testing ads on ChatGPT’s free and Go plans, a big shift for a company that once called ads a “last resort.”

Big revenue. Massive compute bills. Real competition. The AI race is clearly moving from hype to hard economics.

What do you think matters more next: better models, lower costs, or distribution? 🤔
