Hacking the Peerlist Game

Algorithm, user behavior, what works, what not

  1. You'll get your max upvotes and comments within 30 - 90 minutes of posting. Reason - Default feed mode is 'newest' mode. Your post is shown is to whoever is online at the top when you post , but then in 2 hrs it kinda disappears forever. There is no algo to resurface it. Trending tab usually follows newest, if something is hyped up for a few hours on newest or you post something late night, your post pops up on trending I do not know how. But more than that, if you get comments, very high chance you get on trending list. comments is what I suppose is the algo for trending.

  2. Those who visit your profile ONLY look at bio and work section and the post which made them open your profile. Not post history which is last tab. Peerlist shows profile visits but I have almost never seen upvote spam after a visit - meaning posts are not seen. On other platforms like linkedin or IG, you get like spams when someone stalks your profile. It's not a common behavior here.

  3. Always talk about your articles through. Nobody will discover them until you tell people as there is not separate articles tab

  4. Something I learned recently. If you are verified, don't DM someone to promote your products. Stalk someone's profile ruthlessly, get as many data points as you can get, repeat the same for many profiles, see the pain points and topics and topics they talk about and offer relevant products only in DM with message personalized to them. This has better chances they would check or buy.

  5. Peerlist audience is of the builders, they can build for themselves if they want to ideally. Not the perfect customer base. I've noticed the same on Product Hunt. The people who need the products do not roam on launch platforms, they'll be likely on YT, IG, FB, LIn etc. or physical spaces. They may be more helpful to have building-related and selling-related conversations and products or finding potential partners and investors.

  6. Upvotes mean "nothing". Seriously. Anybody online can just upvote when post pops up in front of them on newest tab. It's too random and because we have 'newest' as feed default, no matter how many upvotes you get, it will disappear and get buried forever in content history within 2 hours. Focus on COMMENTS, they reveal true feelings of the consumer as they have nuance.

  7. Peerlist SEO is good, so much that AI can scrape your articles and profiles and make a persona about you. Write more articles; even when article is nowhere on UI, it is discoverable on search engines like google and by AI. I ran a web search request using an AI to make my digital persona and peerlist content was used in it - that's how I came to know about this.

  8. Cross-reference you social profiles including peerlist on other socials like IG or Github. It's an easy way to copy audience between platforms, which means more visibility and you taking more mindspace in consumer's mind whenever you post cross-platform.

  9. On peerlist you get dopamine hit quickly because you get upvotes almost instantly you post which almost never happens on other socials. Genuinely the reason which kept me on this platform and this is one of the best features. I believe Initial dopamine hit is way more effective than eventual compounding from a creator's motivation pov.

  10. caveat - this is a criticism. Because there is no algorithms and profile viewers too do not stalk profiles, so old posts are lost. Your library of content will remain unseen. Therefore there is no compounding effect like you seen on youtube or IG. Which is a huge loss I think. Also articles being so good but nowhere on UI nulls their power.
