watchplay scrobbler keeps your watchplay library up to date automatically.
Start a movie or episode on a supported streaming service and the extension detects what you're watching, matches it against TMDB, and records your progress in your watchplay account — no manual logging.
SUPPORTED SERVICES
Netflix
Disney+
Max / HBO Max
Prime Video — coming soon
HOW IT WORKS
1. Sign in once with your existing watchplay account.
2. Open any supported streaming service and press play.
3. The side panel shows the detected title, the matched TMDB entry and the live sync status.
4. Movies are marked watched when you finish them; series episodes are tracked per episode, and seasons are completed automatically once every aired episode has been seen.
PRIVACY FIRST
The Scrobbler only reads visible page data: the page title, on-screen player metadata, ARIA labels, standard MediaSession info and the HTML5 video element's play/pause/ended events. It does NOT:
use private streaming APIs
read your streaming cookies or login sessions
bypass DRM or paywalls
store passwords
Incognito windows are disabled by default.
SAFE MATCHING — NEVER WRONG ENTRIES
Every title is matched server-side against The Movie Database (TMDB). The extension never creates empty or guessed library entries. If a title cannot be matched with confidence, nothing is saved automatically — it is flagged for review instead. We'd rather track nothing than track the wrong thing.
SETTINGS THAT FOLLOW YOU
Per-service controls let you choose what to track (movies, series, mark-on-start, minimum watch time). Your preferences sync to your watchplay account, so they're the same on every device you sign in on.
RELIABLE IN THE BACKGROUND
A last-known-good detection cache keeps tracking accurate even when a streaming site hides its player UI while you're idle. An offline queue retries any sync that fails while you're temporarily disconnected, so nothing is lost.
OPEN & TRANSPARENT
Watch status flows only to the official watchplay API (api.watchplay.app). Every internal log line is prefixed with [watchplay-scrobbler] so behavior is easy to audit in the developer console.
