As part of the Bentley iTwin4Good Programme in collaboration with Enactus UK & Ireland, I'm working with a team to build iReBin:weWin, a community-driven waste management platform for Nottingham. When we arrived in the UK, we were surprised by overflowing bins and unclear recycling rules. Despite trying to recycle properly in our shared homes, contamination was common and we often felt alone in caring. This project gave us a chance to explore the issue more deeply. We found that Nottingham loses over £1 million annually due to contaminated recycling, and its recycling rate has dropped from 36 percent to just 24 percent, well below the UK's 65 percent target. Our response is an AI-powered platform that uses Bentley's iTwin technology to visualise real-time recycling data, support residents with clear sorting guidance, and help councils track and improve local engagement through a centralised system that brings communities together. The name iReBin:weWin reflects our vision: when individuals recycle ("i Re Bin"), the whole community benefits ("we Win"). It's about making small personal actions part of a bigger collective impact. This project is helping me connect my tech skills with real-world sustainability goals. I'm learning how to design digital tools that support local environmental strategies, make recycling more accessible, and encourage behaviour change in everyday life.
