Meta revealed it will donate its popular JavaScript libraries — React and React Native — to the Linux Foundation, which will establish a new React Foundation to steward their future.
The React Foundation will include:
Meta
Amazon
Microsoft
Vercel
Callstack
Expo
Software Mansion
Seth Webster, currently head of React at Meta, will serve as the foundation’s executive director.
Govern React and React Native development
Manage core infrastructure
Organize community events (including React Conf)
Launch programs to foster collaboration
Jim Zemlin of the Linux Foundation called it “a natural next step” to ensure React remains open and community-led. Meta CTO Andrew “Boz” Bosworth emphasized React’s impact: over 20 million developers use it across platforms like mobile, desktop, TVs, gaming consoles, and VR headsets
