Vibe Coding Is Creating a New Trap for Developers

We Are Building More Than Ever, But Shipping Less Than Ever

Vibe Coding Is Creating a New Trap for Developers

If you spend time on X, YouTube, or LinkedIn, you've probably seen the phrase "vibe coding" everywhere. Every day someone is building a SaaS in one hour, launching an AI agent in a weekend, or creating ten side projects before lunch. It looks exciting It looks fast, It looks like everyone is shipping products every single day

The problem is that most people are not actually shipping anything

They are stuck in a loop where they keep generating ideas, asking AI to redesign the UI, changing animations, trying a new framework, rebuilding the dashboard, adding another feature, and then starting another project before the first one ever reaches a real user

At first it feels like progress. After a few months you realize you have twenty repositories, hundreds of prompts, thousands of generated lines of code, and almost nothing that people actually use

That is the hidden side of vibe coding that very few people talk about

Vibe Coding Is Not the Problem

AI is one of the best tools developers have ever received, It can explain code, write components, fix bugs, create APIs, improve documentation, and save hours of repetitive work. Used correctly, it makes good developers even faster

The problem starts when AI becomes entertainment instead of a tool. Instead of asking, "What does my product need?" many developers start asking, "What else can AI build for me?" That small change completely changes the way you work

Instead of solving problems, you begin collecting features

Instead of building a product, you begin building possibilities

Every Prompt Feels Like Progress

One of the biggest reasons this happens is because AI gives instant results

You write a prompt and within seconds something appears on your screen. Maybe it is a cleaner hero section. Maybe it is a better pricing page. Maybe it is a new authentication flow. Maybe it is a dashboard with beautiful charts

Your project looks better after every prompt

Because you can see visible changes, your brain starts believing real progress is happening

But visible progress is not always business progress

Your users do not care that your button animation is smoother

They do not care that your dashboard has glass effects

They care whether your product solves their problem

If nobody is using your product, then another beautiful component changes nothing

The Endless Rebuild Cycle

Many developers never finish version one because they are always working on version two

Today they rebuild the landing page

Tomorrow they switch from one animation library to another

Next week they move from one CSS framework to another

Then they decide the architecture is not good enough, so they restart everything from scratch

After that a new AI model gets released, so they rebuild everything again because the new output looks slightly better

Months pass like this, The project keeps changing, The repository keeps growing, Nothing ever gets released, From the outside it looks like someone is working every day, From the inside nothing meaningful is actually moving forward

More Features Do Not Create More Value

Vibe coding makes adding features almost free

If AI can generate a new page in two minutes, adding another feature feels easy. Soon your simple idea becomes filled with analytics, AI assistants, notifications, dark mode, advanced settings, multiple dashboards, integrations, exports, themes, and features that nobody requested

The product becomes larger but not better

A product is valuable because it solves one important problem well, not because it has the longest feature list

Many successful products started with very little

They earned users first

The extra features came later after real feedback, not imagination

Developers Start Building for AI Instead of Users

This is another trap that is becoming very common

Instead of listening to users, developers begin listening to AI

Every new prompt produces another suggestion

"Add this", "Improve that", "Modernize the UI", "Create a better dashboard", "Use a different layout"

The AI is trying to be helpful, but it has no idea what your users actually need

Without real customer feedback, every improvement becomes a guess

Eventually your roadmap is driven by prompts instead of people

That usually leads to products that look impressive but solve very little

Shipping Feels Harder Than Building

Building is exciting because it gives immediate rewards

Shipping is uncomfortable because it invites judgment

When you launch a product, people might ignore it

Someone might find bugs

Someone might dislike the design

Someone might tell you the idea is unnecessary

Many developers unknowingly avoid shipping because building feels safer than being evaluated

AI makes this even easier because there is always something else to improve

As long as you keep asking for another prompt, you never have to face real feedback

Unfortunately, real feedback is where successful products are actually created

Perfection Has Become Easier to Chase

Years ago, improving a design required hours of work

Today you can generate five different versions in a few minutes

Instead of helping developers finish faster, this sometimes creates unlimited choices

Should the button be blue or green?, Should the dashboard use cards or tables? , Should the hero section have a gradient or a video background?, Should the icons be outlined or filled?

None of these questions matter if nobody has even used the product

Perfection keeps moving further away because AI can always generate another version

If you are always chasing the next version, you never arrive at the current one

Learning Is Slowly Being Replaced by Generating AI can write almost anything

That convenience sometimes creates another problem

Developers stop asking why something works because they already have working code

They copy, paste, and continue

Everything feels fast until something breaks

Then they realize they cannot debug the project because they never understood how it worked in the first place

Vibe coding should speed up learning, not replace it

The developers who continue learning will always have an advantage over the developers who only generate

The Real Metric Is Not Repository Count

Many developers measure progress by the number of repositories they have created

Others measure it by commits, prompts, components, or features

None of those numbers matter if nobody benefits from your work

A single product with one hundred active users is more valuable than fifty unfinished projects sitting on GitHub

Real progress is measured by users, feedback, revenue, retention, and solved problems

Everything else is just activity

Activity feels productive

Results actually are productive

Why This Loop Is So Hard to Notice

The dangerous part about this habit is that it does not feel like procrastination

You wake up every morning > You write code > You improve the UI > You solve bugs > You add features > You stay busy all day

At the end of the week you honestly believe you worked hard

And you probably did

The problem is that your work never crossed the finish line

Being busy and making progress are not always the same thing

That difference becomes very expensive over time

What I Started Realizing

I noticed this in my own work as well

Sometimes I spent hours improving things that users would never notice while delaying the parts that actually mattered. It was easy to justify because every change looked cleaner than the previous one.

Eventually I started asking myself a simple question before making another improvement

"Will this help someone use the product today?"

If the answer was no, then it probably was not the next thing I should be working on

That single question helped me focus more on shipping than polishing

Final Thoughts

Vibe coding is changing software development in an incredible way, and I believe it will continue to make developers faster than ever before. But speed only matters when it moves you toward a destination
