The Siren Song of Speed: Why Startups Fall for Vibe Coding.

The startup ecosystem is defined by speed. The race to achieve product market fit, secure funding, and outmaneuver competitors often prioritizes rapid deployment above all else. In this crucible, the temptation to engage in vibe coding becomes intensely appealing. Teams might rationalize quick, intuitive fixes as "agile," believing that any problem can be addressed later, once success is achieved.

Furthermore, many startups operate with lean teams, where individuals wear multiple hats and formal processes might seem like unnecessary overhead. The absence of seasoned engineering leadership or a robust quality assurance culture can leave a void that subjective decision making readily fills. The pressure to "move fast and break things," a mantra popularized in the early days of tech giants, is frequently misapplied, leading to reckless abandonment of engineering fundamentals without the subsequent resources or discipline to "fix things" effectively.

Ultimately, while the initial burst of speed delivered by vibe coding might feel exhilarating, it invariably leads to a steep decline in velocity down the line. What begins as a shortcut soon transforms into a convoluted maze, trapping the very innovations it sought to accelerate. For ambitious startups, this initial perceived advantage turns into a severe strategic disadvantage, hindering their ability to scale and grow sustainably.
