The Fear of 200 Mtr. Walk

A girl booked a ride home late at night.

Her destination? Just 200 metres away and the rider looked surprised.

“Your building is right there. Why did you book a ride?”
She replied quietly, “It’s close, but there are a few boys on the way who make lewd comments and gestures. I don’t feel comfortable walking past them.”

The rider said nothing.

He simply moved his bag from the front of the bike to his back and said, “Hop on. I’ll drop you.” The fare was 24 rupees.

When they reached her building, she paid him and asked, “Bhaiya, can I ask you something? Why did you move your bag from the front to your back?”

He smiled. “Bas aise hi…” Then he added, “You go inside. I’ll wait here until you’re safely in.”

She walked towards her building and He waited.

For him, perhaps it was just another ride but ....For her, it meant getting home without fear. And perhaps this is one of the simplest definitions of being a
