Technical Consultant

Full-stack developer, predominately focused on PHP; architecting and leading a team of developers working on the partnermarketing.com product family.

My role included: planing technical tickets with the Product Owner, managing the rest of the developers and overseeing their progress, architecting the platform as a whole, doing DevOps for the team, and interviewing, training and mentoring new starters.

I would regularly go on client calls, liaising with technical and management teams within some of our big clients, such as Lenovo, Zebra, and Nokia, to discuss and debug Single Sign On matters, and new client requirements. I have also provided clients access to testing systems for User Acceptance Testing, and interpreted their feedback, translating this into tickets for the team to action, and written statements and responses to client queries during the proposal phase.

Technical Lead

I joined as a Junior Developer for their flagship product family: partnermarketing.com. Initially, my role covered day to day development of both frontend (AngularJS) and backend (predominantly PHP, with Symfony 2) within an AGILE team, and managing the project's CI/CD pipeline, which was run by Jenkins, although I later transitioned this to GitLab to better align our department with the rest of the agency.

After three months, I became the most senior member of team and in March I won “Hero of the
Month”, selected by entire company vote. When I joined, the team was at the end of a six month project to refactor the entire code base, and in April I single handedly planned, managed, and oversaw the go live date – migrating the entire database from MongoDB to MySQL and ensuring none of the data in our thousands of records were corrupted.

Junior Developer

I have had the pleasure of working with OpenPlay on improving their infrastructure and building up their internal Platform Team. Notable projects and outcomes:

- Implemented a cost effective scaling system, allowing their systems to cope with high load and peak times, without having to run at over-capcity 24/7
- Reviewed and improved their entire platform, and user accounts, for security best practicies
- Updated their automated testing and deployment systems to make these more stable, and remove many of the manual steps that were previously required
- Improved high-demand queries to take pressure off of their database systems
- Created and curated in-house documentation for their team to use, and provided specific explainations/examples for systems for their team members

Platform Consultant

Symec is a mobile device reseller - I assumed technical ownership of their pre-MVP product suite, which were being developed by independent third party agencies. I determined the technical strategy for our projects, deciding which technologies to use and which features to prioritise whilst weighing technical debt against business requirements. I moved the core backend code base inhouse, converted much of the project to microservices, and deployed these to a containerised cluster running Kubernetes.

I worked with the Product Director and UX/UI Lead on our product strategy, and took part in all
design sprints to help shape the features on our roadmap, as well as being consulted on the look
and feel of our software. I regularly joined or led meetings with our enterprise customers to collect feedback and ideas for features, onboard them to our platform, collect their technical needs, or help debug problems.

Development Lead

Huggg is an app-based messaging & gifting service. My role covered technical planning and hands on development of the central Laravel API, which was being transitioned to Node.js microservices. We had several disparate systems consuming the API (including internally developed apps and web apps, as well as third party integrations), so when designing and adding new functionality to existing endpoints, or creating new workflows, part of my technical planning had to take into account the need to ensure forwards and backwards compatibility.

I was also responsible for managing infrastructure, which sat across several AWS services and a containerised swarm, and huggg’s automated payment and invoicing systems, including Stripe for end user payments and some merchant payouts, and direct integrations with vendor tills and ePOS
platforms.

On the frontend, I maintained and added to the internal AngularJS Admin System, and built standalone React web apps for some of huggg’s product offerings.

API + DevOps Lead

I came onboard with Unrival at the infancy of their digital product offering: a suite of SaaS tools for
Account Based Marketing. I was responsible for setting up their development team and processes,
and designing their system from the ground up. This included setting up databases, servers and CI/
CD pipelines (using GitLab CI), helping to decide the business requirements of the tool, and
architecting and building the platform’s core code base, using FastRoute + Doctrine running in a
Docker swarm on the backend, and Vue.js served from an S3 bucket behind AWS CloudFront. I then
transitioned into advising the Product Manager on running an agile process, and hiring and
overseeing the rest of the development team to take over day to day operations.

Lead Software Engineer

SWEEB is a web development and management company that aims to make the process of creating a web presence as easy as possible, regardless of technical knowledge / size of project.

Owner and Web Developer

In the summer of that year I became Spa Staff's sole web developer, responsible for all updates that are required on the site. This is has included bug fixing, a major redesign of the entire site, creating new sections on the site such as blogs and advanced search systems.

In June 2012, I took over the hosting of SpaStaff, becomming  responsible for ensuring the site remains live, and that hourly backups are made, as well as continuing my duties as web developer.

In 2014, Spa Staff contracted a second freelance developer for minor bug fixes and improvements while I worked on a major site redesign, implementing a responsive design to better tailor the site for tablets and phones. I was responsible for training this developer in the technologies the site uses and assigning / overseeing jobs.
