I build software from Cape Town, remotely, to keep the doggo happy, often for startups. Go, WebAssembly, Zig, C etc.

I'm using Ebitengine, a Go 2D game engine, to expand my Go knowledge. Along the way, it's turned into building small games. Surprisingly, a lot of game-development challenges are related to enterprise development - players notice when your game lags or has bugs!

Just a bit of fun with Go, Ebitengine and WebAssembly. Try the arrow keys...

OldSchool

Absolute silliness in Go, Ebitengine, WebAssembly and such. Bouncies is a silly little game that allows me to experiment with various aspects of Go in a visual format. Plus it forms a known framework to structure some of my Introduction to Go talks around.

My DevConf 2023 talk, using Go and EBitEngine.

Working on the Scala backend API and administration tools.
Working on the Android client, including doing interesting things with video editing and manipulation.

Doozie

I was supposed to be learning to manipulate and display data in the browser. So of course I got bored and wrote a small game that does all of those things and a bit more. Just not in a conventional way.

HomeKick is a new home services management application that makes it simpler and easier to manage day to day maintenance tasks in and around the home.

HomeKick

It's a game! In your browser. It's just something I built for fun, to figure out some Flutter Web stuff.

Exploring the HTML Canvas can be tedious and boring, unless you actually build something with it. As part of my research into computer-generated images, I played with JavaScript and the HTML Canvas a bit and made something. It's simple, yet you can do interesting things with it.

Easily add captions to photos, change fonts, play with fun filters and supercharge your creations with powerful blending and masking tools.

While digging into WebAssembly and Kotlin, I figured it'll be more fun to try and build a retro-style game. The main logic is done in Kotlin, which compiles to Wasm and runs in the browser. This core interacts with the HTML DOM, which was a good lesson for me as I'll be doing some of this soon, but in a more enterprise-style application.

I have had the privilege of doing a variety of tech talks, some of which were not for companies internally, so I can share the slides with the community.
