Generational Equality Asia Pacific Design Challenge 2020

The challenge I was tackling was"How can we promote behavioural change to reduce Violence Against Women (VAW) by enlisting community leaders and influencers?" 

This design thinking challenge consisted of an 8 step process in different stages of design thinking. It was a collaborative effort with people from across the globe who chose to take action and speak up against the injustices of blatant sexism and violence. 

I demonstrated my expertise by helping guide the conversation to stay focused on the topic as well as with my knowledge of utilizing design thinking ideologies to better acquire solutions to overcome this challenge in Asian Pacific regions.

Design Engineer

A day filled with brilliant speakers, thought-provoking videos and mind-blowing conversations. 

#TEDxMcMasterU is a unique event that resonated with the community, recognizing the involvement of people who have done something to inspire others whether it be in arts, engineering, technology, or social skills.

My role was rotating between being the front desk coordinator, event logistics planner, and stage liaison ensuring the event ran smoothly; as well as taking care of the preparation before and after the event was over. That included setting up and taking down booths, unloading and loading excess resources, and clean up.

Event Coordinator

Unfortunately, this Hackathon did not take place due to COVID-19. However, the efforts put into it needed to be highlighted since the event got cancelled 2 weeks prior to it's scheduled runtime.

• Assisted in identifying key sponsors for the Hackathon
• Collaborated with several individuals on things like logo design, scheduling, website visuals
• Created action plan boards on Trello in Slack
• Identified and scouted potential locations
• Arranged routes for easy accessibility
• Planned the scheduling for the rooms
• Selected the food and beverages, as well as volunteered to transport it

• Increased productivity and performance by 15% by improving organization and trackability of production
• Drafted and analyzed engineering drawings of components for manufacturing
• Leveraged knowledge to create Bill of Materials (BOM’s), 2D and 3D CAD drawings, and conducted FEA for small structures on Abaqus

Mechanical Engineer

• Collaborated with the Director of Software Engineering to create self-sufficient Photolithography capable software using Python and OpenCV.
• Quickly picked up Python and utilized Open-Source Software to reduce project costs. 
• Learned how the in-house photolithography process for semiconductor wafers for the stepper machines work according to the requirements of the company
• Took responsibility for the development of the automated scaling of images for consistent sizing. This included automatic zoom correction and image sharpness correction
• Wrote the pseudo-code for the auto-scaling of images utilizing the pixel values at certain areas of the semiconductor wafer disk images
• Achieved a 95% success rate in identifying markers embedded within semiconductor wafers. 
• Improved reliability and efficiency by automating the system with the ability for an operator to step in and 'teach and correct' the system to maintain quality because no technology can function without technical exp

Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Capstone

Collaborated in a cross-functional team in test execution of innovative medical devices using high precision digital balances, simulation chambers, HALT tests, cleanroom testing and more:

• Executing and documenting test accurately per written procedure and product specification
• Assessing pass/fail outcome relative to established criteria for 250+ cases
• Cooperating with engineering personnel to assist with troubleshooting as needed
• Implemented over 75 Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) to prevent non-conformities and reduce quality defects by 13%
• Maintain QMS and the effectiveness of processes according to FDA and ISO 13485
• Documented test results then identified and flagged unexpected outcomes increasing reliability by 10%

Quality Assurance Tester

Collaborating across multiple disciplines with business partners, Technical Product (TP) provides functional product expertise, enabling informed decisions, and fostering an accurate and efficient product development and maintenance process for Individual Insurance products.  Throughout ideation and the product design cycle, TP provides consulting on relevant context, ensuring historical business and system complexities are clearly presented and understood.
