RailsBridge is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping the Ruby and Rails communities friendly, vibrant, and welcoming to people of all backgrounds. We run introductory Ruby on Rails (as well as front-end and mobile) workshops all over the world aimed at under-represented groups.

Venue Manager

We're an intrepid band of architects now working in the tech industry and helping others do the same. We host events, workshops, and throw a killer happy hour.

Founding Member

In this Seminar, we test methods of discovery and design from a multidisciplinary perspective -- engaging computer science, architecture, and journalism to best interrogate and define the emerging field of public interest technology.

Adjunct Associate Professor, Public Interest Technology: Cities, Design, Code, Reporting

Series C female-led digital media company and newsletter provider with $100M valuation that is focused on Millennial women.
As a software engineer on the Newsletter Team at theSkimm, I worked collaboratively with the Product and Design Teams to implement the redesign of the Daily Skimm, an email newsletter with an engaged community of over 4 million active subscribers. The purpose of the redesign was to bring about consistent branding across all sections of the newsletter. The newsletter is sent out through an internal Rails application called Orchestrator that automates most of the steps around the creation of new issues for the Daily Skimm. Other technologies leveraged include: Contentful, Sailthru and MJML.

Software Engineer

Introduction to the theory and practice of computer user interface design, emphasizing the software design of graphical user interfaces. Topics include basic interaction devices and techniques, human factors, interaction styles, dialogue design, and software infrastructure. Technologies covered include: Python, JavaScript and Flask

Adjunct Assistant Professor, User Interface Design

Series C proptech that held a $1.6 bn valuation and provided a flexible workspace platform that matched, tailored and managed office space for customers.
In my role as Software Engineer on the Product Team, I had ownership over a React single-page app that was heavily used by the internal Design Team to outfit custom office spaces with furniture and fixtures. The app made use of GraphQL for its data layer and integrated with in-house systems for managing supply chain and projects along with an integration with Salesforce to pull in customer information and budgets for architectural design projects.

I worked cross functionally, leveraging my background in architecture and urban planning to speak with the designers and build an app they love to use and which provides value to replace what was previously an onerous process done manually with a series of spreadsheets.

Coding for Spatial Practices introduces students to web design and development as a means of representation, speculation and communication. Students will learn the foundational, front-end languages HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create work for the web browser.

To guide our study, we will explore questions such as: What is the relationship between architecture and the World Wide Web? What parallels can be drawn between the development process and our own design processes?

Adjunct Associate Professor, Coding for Spatial Practices

ARCH A4163, Computational Design Workflows (Summer 2022, Summer 2023)
Designed and taught this intermediate-advanced course in creating experimental tools and workflows. We will discuss the history and mechanics of tools used in computer science and user interface design as a method of informing, analyzing and understanding the uses of software, computational tools, and design workflows for architecture and the built environment. Students construct prototype workflows using several computational media (apps, code, scripts, hardware) to create experimental design tools and workflows that change how a designer-developer works. Technologies covered include: WebVR/AR, Websockets, WebRTC, Interactive 3D/2D and Arduino
