Joined the security team as an AWS security expert to improve the security of their cloud infrastructure. Lead the implementation of the latest AWS security best practices through the organisation.

I was also part of the incident response team responsible for investigating and remidiating security threats to the platform.

Conducted staff training on various security topic like infrastructure as code, XSS prevention and secure javascript coding practices.

Automated the taking down of abusing customers using the product to conduct phishing campaigns.

Security Consultant

Built the second generation transaction monitoring platform which allows customers (typically financial institutions, crypto exchange etc) comply with AML/CFT regulations and identify suspicious behaviour in their transactions.

The project had been started a few months prior to me joining but had stalled due to shifting priorities for the team working on it. I was brought in to take the early prototype to market.

They key improvements to address in that new platform were
- Performance - the previous generation platform was very slow, to the point where it took over a day to process our customers' daily transactions batches
- Accuracy - the complex rule system of the older version was hard to test and had many hard to detect bugs in its logic.
- Configuration - building a complex rules system accessible to non technical users to self-serve while being able to understand exactly how decisions are made is quite challenging and something the team then spent a while iterating on after my 

Backend Engineer

Joined the newly formed "scalers" team who focused on improving scalability of operations and customer support while Monzo grew from 200k to 1m customers.

Using data I focused on 2 areas

Improving agent efficiency by working on the 2 in house tools used by support and operations. - - Worked on KYC and fraud workflows for faster task resolution
- Rebuilt inbound call system to mostly eliminate missed calls from customers, add measures to protect staff from abusing customers and improve auditing of phone support interactions

Increasing self service capabilities to enable more customers to resolve their own issues and collect feedback.
- Improved the in house FAQ content management to allow the support team to react faster to new issues and reduce the need for customer to contact us

Backend Engineer - Scaling

Curl was building a new type of payment network outside of the cards ecosystem build on top of Open Banking. I joined the team early on to build all the cloud infrastructure to support the product on AWS following the well architected framework and ensuring the product was secure by default.

Additionally I also worked on parts of the payment network itself including bank integrations and transaction processing logic.

- Joined NALA as CTO after building in digital banking around Europe.
- Grew an engineering team from 3 to 30 engineers in the last 18 months across 4 engineering teams with folks from Monzo, Wise, Revolut, Remitly, Mpesa and other leading digital banking services.
- Scaled our business from the UK, to Europe and now the United States.
- Built our consumer and business products (rafiki) supporting 249 banks and 25 mobile money services in Africa
- Backed by: Y-Combinator, Accel Partners (their first African Investment), DST Global, DFS Lab, NYCA Partners, and several incredible fintech angel investors including the founders of Monzo, Deel and Robinhood.
