A lifelong reader with a sustained interest in publishing, independent bookstores, genre fiction, and graphic novels. I have attended and organized author events, followed developments in book distribution and metadata, and maintained a long-running blog focused on libraries and publishing trends in New York. My professional and personal interests intersect at the evolving relationship between readers, content platforms, and emerging technologies. I attended both Book Expo America and New York Comic Con for both professional and personal interests for many years.

I coordinated ordering for the Mount Vernon Public Library.  I also worked with the collection, events, and programming.  I was responsible for reference.  
In addition, I worked with the Job Information Center and the Mills Law Collection.
The Mount Vernon community is a largely African American community so I have experience ordering African American fiction and nonfiction in the adult area.
I ordered adult fiction and nonfiction.  I also maintained contact with our vendors.

Collection Development Librarian

This is a professional training center for librarians and a library development center in Manhattan.  I have attended a number of training sessions here including Twitter for librarians and the Career Interest SIG.  I also have attended a variety of different classes for librarians at Metro over the years.

This was a meetup for librarians in New York which held events for librarians at various venues.  I went to their meetings and sometimes write for their blog.

I blogged on the Bookcalendar. I focused on my experiences in libraries, bookstores, and events in the publishing field.  I also occasionally blogged on the New York Librarians Meetup blog.  I blogged for quite a while. The blog is now closed.  I am not currently blogging.

I ran a Twitter account as part of a connection with a blog, Book Calendar.  It had 2000 followers.  I decided to do other projects.

I was the administrator for the Mount Vernon Public Library Twitter Account. Now I am showing another librarian Twitter.

Updater

I update the Facebook page with events daily, identify interesting articles to read, track who is visiting, post images of event flyers, post links from the library website, and promote the Mount Vernon Public Library.  I did this for nine years.  I also ran a Facebook group for the library.  Now, I am working with another librarian to show her the process. It was an interesting experience.  The responsibility has been transferred.

Administrator (Past Position, No Longer Manage Facebook)

I attendded Book Expo America every year as a librarian for many years.  I went to the panels for librarians.  Unfortunately, Book Expo America ended with the pandemic.  I was a guest for the conference for many years and got in free.  Book Expo America was ended in 2020.

Performed reference for the Mount Vernon Public Library.
Was responsible for the Job Information Collection and Law Collection.
Did in person reference and email reference.
Helped with ordering reference books.

Reference Librarian II

Responsible for managing collection development and electronic resources.
Manage one librarian who works for electronic resources and three clerical workers who cover the computer lab and the public computers, and a contract computer instructor.  Also work closely with a senior clert and a part time computer technician.
Coordinating ordering for adult materials.
Ordering for all adult fiction and nonfiction books.
Making decisions for weeding, missing and lost books, mending, and bindery
Managing the current events display and new books display area.
Reference including legal, email, and business reference.
Work with the Job Information Center, New Books Area including bestsellers.
Work with Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Word
Making suggestions for the website; including selecting links, design, and putting together Bookletters recommendations.
Coordinating with graphic designer for flyers, posters, and other outreach.
Coordinating adult programming including films, poetry workshop

Manager Collection Development and Electronic Resources

I used to go to hang out at a defunct bookstore on occasion called Science Fiction, Mysteries, and More.  I also liked to hang out at Rogers Time Machine in Manhattan.  Roger passed away from cancer.  I would occasionally  help out with minor things.  I also collect ground level (early independent) comics.  I am familiar with some editors and comic artists because of this.  I try to get to the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art Show, and the New York Comic Con as a professional attendee.  I order the graphic novels for my library. There is some overlap between my profession and hobbies.

Memberships

I run the collection development department.  I am currently a Librarian III.
I also run the adult public computer area.
I have managed up to 9 people.  The amount has varied over the last several years.  I have managed the library archivist, the electronic resources librarian, the ESL and literacy librarian at different points.
I write grants and help the library director write grants.
I coordinate ordering for materials in the library including electronic content and databases.
I finished my CPLA in 2018.  I have taken classes in taxonomy and diversity.
