About This Project

Reaction Field is an open-source, chemistry-themed, local two-player card game. It features tactical reactions and emergent strategy, built with React and TypeScript. Currently, it is distributed as a public Web Playtest Alpha.

The game is designed for same-screen local play, with open hands, public deck counts, public status, and a full game log. It intentionally lacks online multiplayer, accounts, rooms, saves, telemetry, or remote error reporting. Refreshing the page will discard the current match and return to the character selection screen.

Core Gameplay Features:

Choose from 7 released characters across 49 ordered two-player lineups; mirror matchups are allowed.

Experience setup, preparation, cycles, turns, actions, responses, status handling, deck reshuffles, elimination, and victory resolution.

Utilize linked card play, active DIY actions, character skills, the shared damage pipeline, and implemented experiment counterattacks.

Trigger three structured successful reaction events: acid-base neutralization, acid-carbonate reaction, and alkaline absorption of SO2.

Current Features:

A 68-card ordinary physical card pool.

Public hands, deck counts, status, and a complete game log for both players.

Accessible in-page confirmation dialogs for restarting or returning to character selection.

A bilingual, display-only three-step first-game example.

Structured successful reactions can show a non-modal notice.

Links to the public GitHub repository from About and gameOver screens.

Robust error handling, including React ErrorBoundary and browser error fallbacks.

Alpha Status & Development:

This is an alpha playtest, not a stable release. The current public release is Reaction Field Alpha 6 (version 0.16.0-alpha.2). The project uses React, TypeScript, Vite, Vitest, and Playwright. Development notes and roadmap details are available in the repository.

The game supports Simplified Chinese and English modes without altering game state or rules. The display language is suggested by browser preferences and can be switched in the page.
