Data Insight (DI) is a Symantec Corporation product for Data Management and context classification. It monitors the client activities over the network. The final result of the DI system operation is an in-depth report pointing out the takeaways of the Indexer operation. The main problem of implementing the DI system for practical purpose is the Sizing/Scaling problem. In the current times, the implementation is carried out very conservatively resulting in the under-utilization of the system resources like memory and processing capability. Our project’s main purpose is to make the system recommendations as accurate as possible. The main results of our project include calculating the maximum sustainable event rate for an existing configuration, the memory partitioning among the various modules for the most efficient functioning of the DI system, configuring the client side machines for optimum utilization of the resources by the DI system and also provides the complete analysis for the various types of configurations. For achieving the above objectives our project provides an interactive and dynamic GUI for depicting the to-be implemented network topology. All configuration parameters can be fed into the GUI. The project then allows simulating the functioning of the DI system for the provided network topology. The results are calculated based on Probability and Statistics, Queuing Theory (M\M\1 model) and the Probability Distributions.
