The purpose of an Academic Representative is to work alongside the University and Students' Union to improve the students' education for the better by representing what students on the course or in the department want. The role is for one academic year and requires a commitment of approximately 1 hour per week. Responsibilities - - Find out what students on the course or within the department think about their educational experience. - Represent the views of these students to the University. - Attending student-centric meetings (such as, but not limited to, Student Staff Committees) to further represent the views of these students and report outcomes back to the SU. - Tell students what decisions were made. - Complete the Students’ Union’s training. - Work with the Student Voice department, other Reps, and our Union Councillor to communicate any issues in our department, and any decisions made. - Raise awareness among students of issues affecting education.

The purpose of a Student Mentor is to help a first-year/study-abroad student adjust to university life. Responsibilities - - Contact mentees before they arrive. - Be available to meet with mentees. - Maintain contact with mentees. - Be aware of the limits of confidentiality. - Provide mentees with bespoke advice and support. - Be willing to answer questions or direct mentees to the most appropriate source of advice. - Seek advice from departmental contacts or the mentoring scheme co-ordinator where necessary.
