Using my design thinking background to devise and present ideas, models and theories in ways that makes them easy for others to make their own. This often, but not exclusively, involves designing and running workshops, pitching to and designing with stakeholders, immersive research, planning and executing processes, online or in person. The 'how' of the work is varied... but the 'why' is always about moving people from where they are to where they want to be.

Facilitator and Consultant

Since beginning at Conversant I have designed experiences for a wide variety of clients and a wide variety of individuals within our client systems. Always bespoke, always fit for purpose, the experiences I've designed range from thought experiments and mental models through to physical and digital artefacts, to time-specific events. 

My day-to-day is very different now from where I started! Here's what my LinkedIn said in 2013:

Senior Experience Designer

Design and delivery of a university-wide course 3D Printing for Creatives. Practical 15 week course in which students from all industries have the opportunity to understand and then apply the design thinking process to digital fabrication techniques towards their chosen design. 

As lecturer and tutor I am responsible for delivery of content related to digital manufacturing techniques, as well as guiding students through a design process for their chosen outcomes. This often means drawing on my knowledge of other traditional manufacturing techniques, and guiding students towards the right technique or process for their chosen outcome. I am responsible for student performance and assessment and content update and availability, to ensure each student gains valuable knowledge of the design industry and beyond during their time enrolled in this class.

Sessional Lecturer and Research Assistant

Duties included: design generation, production and distribution of the 2011 RMIT Orientation Guidebook.
The Guidebook is an 80pp full colour publication that was targeted at and distributed to incoming students at the three main RMIT campuses. The Book is a comprehensive guide to RMIT university life in Melbourne, encompassing both RMIT-specific information and information on activities, lifestyle and general knowledge of Melbourne. The book was funded by the RMIT Student Union and was produced in a run of 7000 copies.
As a co-editor (one of three) I was responsible for the graphic design and layout, printing design and liaison (paper stock, budget concerns etc), and distribution of the books.

Following my time as Acting Events and Marketing Coordinator I was invited to join the DIA Victoria/Tasmania Council as a Councillor representing ED (Emerging Designers). Since then I have transitioned into the role of Experience Design Liaison.

Voted in by the DIA Vic/Tas Council, this Executive Position helps lead the council, and makes sure we deliver on our commitments to members in a financially sound way.

Treasurer

President of the student council of the Victorian/Tasmanian Design Institute of Australia Branch; ED (Emerging Designers). Coordination and event management, representing the ED council on DIA Victoria/Tasmania Council meetings.

ED President

This position involves the coordination of many people on Council towards a unified and relevant Facebook and Twitter presence. We aim to provide avenues for our members to engage with the DIA Victoria/Tasmania Branch, and in doing so remain a relevant voice for professional design.

Social Media Coordinator

Acting Marketing and Events Coordinator; coordination of DIA events, administration of Council meetings and actions, and assisting Council members in these areas.

Intern to the Marketing and Events Coordinator; assisting with coordination of DIA award programs, events, administration of Council meetings and actions, and miscellaneous tasks that all interns do.

I look after a shop that sells beautiful products made in Japan, or by Japanese artists in Melbourne. Duties include customer service, window dressing, general administration and reception.

Miscellaneous beautiful, engaging and challenging design work; graphics, product, event, interaction and installation design. Client liaison, occasional communications coordinator, all-rounder and co-founder with 4 others.

Product and event design as needed, execution of Council mandates, contribution to Council meetings and planning.

Vice President, member, designer and all-round coordination helper

Duties included: reception, client liaison, furniture design and CNC operation. Specifically these included design generation of recycled timber furniture (typically dining tables, entertainment units and shelving), liaison with clients regarding design specifics, liaison with other manufacturers regarding additional services (such as metal fabrication or glass installation), liaison (and occasional helping) with the in-house cabinet makers regarding the generated designs, and the general day-to-day administration of the business.

Receptionist/Designer/CNC Operator

Design and hand painting of signage for the shop, design and layout of miscellaneous graphics (flyers etc) as needed, sales and reception one day a week.
